This Heat...

Woke up at stupid o'clock (that's generally 5.00 - 5.30 a.m.) unable to sleep any longer. The upside of which, as I've noted before, is that you get some time with music.

I've been using a recent run of early rising to play catch-up with the BBC Proms via iPlayer. This morning though I wanted to hear the sounds of Arvo Part. I listened to it without headphones which meant playing it very, very quietly.

There were long sections that were completely inaudible at that level. Yet there was something poetic about hearing birdsong, sea gulls, the occasional passing traffic at the end of the street, waves and then like a shaft of sunlight, pure choral notes emerging from the general ambience.

Today's a travel day for Debra and also for me. She's off to Wales to see her folks and I'm off to London...

A last look at the sea...

Arrival at the coldest place on the planet which on a day as sultry and as balmy as this was actually quite welcome...

The view from the office this morning...

At some point in the afternoon reality began to separate and break apart...

Arrival in King's Cross...

The heat in London was amazing and even the short tube ride to Marylebone for my connection to Amersham was unbelievably sweltering.

En route the train passed through one of Debbie's old stomping grounds...

Declan met me at Amersham and before arriving at our final destination we took a detour into a place called Chesham...

where I chanced upon this toe-tapping summer-lovin' classic...

Tempted as I was by this and many other items I resisted the siren call.

Eventually arriving at Colgan Manor for food, drink and olympic-standard chinwagging.
